-Tidal forces are secondary effects of the force of gravity, which are responsible for the rising and lowering of the tides. They occur because the gravitational force exerted on one body by a second body is not constant across its diameter. The side nearest to the second body experiences a greater force, while the opposite side experiences a lesser force. In this first JCR Special Issue volume covering tidal dynamics, the theory and analysis of tidal phenomena are explored wherever a gravitational field that varies in time and space is present.
